Who builds Shugo

You are deciding whether to let an app see your bills. It is fair to want to know who is behind it first.

Why we built this

Every bill tracker we tried wanted a complete, readable copy of our financial lives on someone else's server — and none could explain why they needed to read it. So we built the version we wanted: your bills are scrambled on your own device with a key we never receive. We can store and sync them. We can't open them.

What we are, and what we are not

  • We are the thing that remembers what you owe and tells you early — and nobody here can read a word of it.
  • We are not a bank. We do not hold your money.
  • We are not a lender, and we do not offer credit.
  • We are not financial advisers. Nothing Shugo shows you is advice about what to do with your money.
  • We do not move money. Paying a bill still happens between you and your bank.

How we make money

You pay us $9.99 a month. That's the whole model — no selling data, no commissions, no ads. Being unable to read your data doesn't just promise privacy; it makes the other business models impossible for us.

The honest part

Because we never hold your key, we can't open your bills — not even for you. In practice that's less scary than it sounds: a lost code, phone, or laptop is each replaceable. The one case we can't fix is losing your recovery code and every device at once. We tell you up front, and nudge you to keep a backup so you never get there. How recovery works →
